Some schoolchildren are playing in a park, a fight erupts and one of the kids hit another with a stick. Being polite people, the parents of the culprit boy (Kate Winslet and Christoph Waltz) pay a visit to the parents of the boy who got hit (Jodie Foster och John C Reilly) in order to apologise on behalf of their son. As the afternoon passes, the  thin veneer of civilsation peels off the quartet with increasing rapidity. The script is based on a play and once you get past the claustrophobic theatre style, you’re in for an eminently entertaining ride, watching the devolution from politically correct chit-chat into full-fledged neanderthalism. The four stars have obviously had a good a time at the office, directed by the legendary Polanski, who at 78 seems remarkably vital.
