Hausner and Lanthimos visiting the film festival

The two master directors Jessica Hausner and Giorgos Lanthimos are coming to Göteborg International Film Festival 2012. They will lead the jury's work for two of the festival's prestigious prizes, The Ingmar Bergman International Debut Award and the Dragon Award Best Nordic Film.

Last year's winner of The Ingmar Bergman International Debut Award was the American director Derek Cianfrance with the moving love drama Blue Valentine with Michelle Williams and Ryan Gosling in the lead roles. The Dragon Award Best Nordic Film was won by the new Swedish rising star Lisa Aschan with the original and acclaimed film She Monkeys.

Giorgos Lanthimos

Giorgos Lanthimos is visiting the festival partly as a jury chairman for The Ingmar Bergman International Debut Award, and partly with his new film Alps (Alpeis). The Greek director and writer Lanthimos' last film, the black family drama, Dogtooth, was hailed worldwide and was nominated for an Oscar for best foreign film. Göteborg International Film Festival is showing his new film Alps, which is about a group of people who hire themselves out as replacements for dead people. Alps competed at the Venice Film Festival this year.

Jessica Hausner

Jessica Hausner is the jury chairman for Dragon Award for Best Nordic Film. The Austrian director and writer Jessica Hausner’s latest film Lourdes was shown at Göteborg International Film Festival in 2010 and later won a Guldbagge for best foreign film. Since her debut with Flora in 1995, Hausner has directed six films, including the feature films, Lovely Rita and Hotel, which have been shown in the section Un Certain Regard at the festival in Cannes and at Swedish cinemas.
