Un Certain Regard (lit. ”a certain glance”, fig. ”a certain outlook”) is a section in the official program in Cannes. It was introduced by the festival’s current president Gilles Jacob in 1978 to present a wide selection of films in different styles, ”original and different”, works which seek international recognition.
The jury is deciding on the winner of Prix Un Certain Regard, a grant to aid its theatrical distribution in France. Since 2005 the grant consists of 30 000 €, financed by the Groupama Gan Foundation.
- It was marvellous! Being invited to the jury was like if somebody you are secretly in love with, all of a sudden steps forward and make a proposal to marry! At the same time it is a recognition of our festival’s good international reputation, says Marit Kapla.
