Nordic Film Market has started

350 guests has arrived at the Göteborg International Film Festival to partake in the 30th Nordic Film Market and our TV day, NFM TV Drama Vision. Nordic Film Market will present 38 new films and upcoming projects from Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland and Iceland, for international buyers, sales agents and festival programmers from all over the world.
– This year we're breaking a record with the amount of films and visitors to Nordic Film Market... Aside from 19 films and 19 works-in-progress, we're arranging several international industry seminars that focus on future issues – Digital Film Marketing – A UK Perspective, Video on Demand – what’s next? and Who needs European cinema? - A 25-year debate: The European Film Academy and the European Film Awards, reports Cia Edström, market director for Nordic Film Market.
– This year we're particularly proud of our TV day, which looks closer at what currently puts Nordic drama in such high demand on the international market. The seminar will be lead by the studio directors from Fox Television Studios among others.
Among this year's films on the market are Teddy Bear (Denmark) by Mads Matthiesen, who just a few days ago won the Best Director in the World Cinema Dramatic Competition at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah, USA. Also: Flicker by Patrik Eklund (Sweden), Either Way by Hafsteinn Gunnarsson Sigurdsson (Iceland), Stars Above (Finland) by Saara Cantell and Company Orheim by Arild Andresen (Norway), all of whom are competing for the Dragon Award Best Nordic Film with a prize sum of SEK 1 000 000 (€ 117 000).
Among other current films one should take note of are the world market premiering Danish films The Caretaker’s Tale by Kathrine Wiedemann and You and Me Forever by Kaspar Munk as well as the brand new Norwegian film Fuck Up and Black’s Game (Iceland) by Oskar Thor Axelsson.
Both new and established directors can be found in the works-in-progress section: From Sweden we present, among others, Call Girl by Mikael Marcimain, and the Norwegian production, Kon-Tiki by the director couple Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg, as well as the Danish film Marie Krøyer by Bille August.
Other Nordic works-in-progress include the Icelandic science fiction thriller Frost by Reynir Lyngdal, Norway's All That Matters Is Past by the acclaimed director Sara Johnsen, the Finnish Purge by Antti J. Jokinen and Denmark's A Hijacking by Tobias Lindholm, who together with Michael Noer created the fantastic film R, which won the Dragon Award for Best Nordic Film 2010 in Göteborg.
Nordic Film Market will take place from February 2 – 5.
